Erfgoed- en museumprofessionals uit Europees en Caribisch Nederland kunnen zich aanmelden voor een pilotprogramma voor kennisuitwisseling. De Museumvereniging voert het programma uit in samenwerking met erfgoedinstellingen uit het Caribische deel van het Koninkrijk. Het doel is om betrokkenheid te versterken, netwerken te verdiepen en het begrip voor elkaars context te vergroten. Professionals werken tijdelijk binnen elkaars organisaties om praktische ervaring en kennis uit te wisselen.
Het programma loopt tot en met december 2027. Het Mondriaan Fonds is initiatiefnemer en financier van deze pilot, in lijn met zijn beleid om de culturele infrastructuur in de regio’s van het Koninkrijk te versterken. De Museumvereniging is verantwoordelijk voor de uitvoering en zet zich in voor een duurzame voortzetting van het programma na afloop van de pilotfase.
Van oktober 2026 tot en met maart 2027 zijn er mogelijkheden voor kennisuitwisseling tussen museale organisaties en erfgoedprofessionals in Europees Nederland en Caribisch Nederland. De uitwisseling vindt plaats op zowel institutioneel als individueel niveau en heeft als doel duurzame relaties, wederzijds leren en versterking van het museale netwerk te stimuleren.
Uitgangspunt van de open call is dat kennisuitwisseling plaatsvindt op basis van gelijkwaardigheid, wederkerigheid en gezamenlijk eigenaarschap. Projecten moeten bijdragen aan duurzame samenwerking, waarbij beide partijen actief kennis, expertise en ervaringen uitwisselen en gezamenlijk verantwoordelijkheid dragen voor de ontwikkeling, uitvoering en resultaten van het project.
Ook individuele erfgoed- en museumprofessionals kunnen een aanvraag indienen. Hiervoor gelden de volgende voorwaarden en selectiecriteria.
Voorwaarden voor individuele deelname
- Erfgoed- en museumprofessionals uit zowel Europees Nederland als Caribisch Nederland kunnen individueel een aanvraag indienen.
- De kennisuitwisseling vindt plaats met een erfgoedprofessional, museumprofessional of erfgoedorganisatie in het andere deel van het Koninkrijk.
- Projectperiode: oktober 2026 tot en met maart 2027.
- Meeloopperiode: maximaal 12 dagen.
- Maximale bijdrage:
- € 3.500 voor een bezoek aan Caribisch Nederland.
- € 4.500 voor een bezoek aan Nederland.
Binnen dit budget kunnen onder meer de volgende kosten worden vergoed:
- Reis- en verblijfskosten voor een bezoek aan Nederland of Caribisch Nederland.
Daarnaast geldt het volgende:
- Geselecteerde deelnemers presenteren de resultaten, ervaringen en geleerde lessen van hun kennisuitwisseling tijdens de Dutch Caribbean Heritage Platform Conference in maart 2027 (fysiek of online).
- Het projectplan is maximaal twee pagina’s of kan worden ingediend via een videogesprek.
- Er worden maximaal twaalf deelnemers geselecteerd: zes uit Europees Nederland en zes uit Caribisch Nederland.
- De deadline voor het indienen van een aanvraag is vrijdag 18 september 2026.
- Aanvragers die worden geselecteerd voor de individuele uitwisseling komen niet in aanmerking voor de museale uitwisseling.
Selectiecriteria
1. Relevantie
- Aantoonbare betrokkenheid bij de erfgoed- of museumsector.
- Een duidelijke motivatie en aantoonbare aansluiting bij één van de thema’s.
- De uitwisseling draagt bij aan de versterking van de erfgoedpraktijk, kennisontwikkeling of samenwerking tussen Europees Nederland en Caribisch Nederland.
2. Samenwerking
- Het project is gebaseerd op een gelijkwaardige samenwerking, waarbij beide partijen kennis, expertise en ervaringen inbrengen, uitwisselen en van elkaar leren.
- Het voorstel laat zien dat beide partijen actief betrokken zijn bij de ontwikkeling, uitvoering en evaluatie van het project en gezamenlijk verantwoordelijkheid dragen voor de resultaten.
3. Kennisdeling en impact
- Het voorstel bevat een plan voor kennisdeling waarin wordt beschreven hoe opgedane kennis, ervaringen en resultaten worden gedeeld met collega’s, organisaties en netwerken binnen de bredere erfgoedsector.
- Het project draagt bij aan duurzame relaties en blijvende uitwisseling tussen de betrokken organisaties en professionals.
- Voorstellen die aantoonbaar bijdragen aan de ontwikkeling van meerdere professionals, organisaties of het bredere museale werkveld worden positief meegewogen in de beoordeling.
4. Kwaliteit en haalbaarheid
- Het projectvoorstel is inhoudelijk sterk, realistisch en uitvoerbaar binnen de gestelde periode.
- Het voorstel bevat een passende vertegenwoordiging van relevante functies en expertise, zoals conservatoren, educators, collectiebeheerders en publiekswerkers.
- Het voorstel bevat een onderdeel over monitoring en evaluatie, waarin wordt beschreven hoe resultaten, leerervaringen en impact worden vastgelegd en geëvalueerd.
Thema’s voor kennisuitwisseling
1. Behoud en beheer van collecties
Denk aan conservering, inventarisatie, collectiebeheer, ontzamelen en duurzame opslag door middel van kennisdeling en training.
2. Digitalisering en kennisdeling
Denk aan digitalisering van collecties en archieven, inclusieve toegang en innovatieve museale presentaties.
3. Community building en participatie
Denk aan musea en erfgoedinstellingen als gemeenschapscentra en participatieve werkwijzen.
4. Onderwijs en capaciteitsopbouw
Denk aan opleidingen, stages en trainingen, erkenning van lokale expertise en kennisoverdracht op maat.
5. Cultureel ondernemerschap en toerisme
Denk aan cultureel ondernemerschap en duurzame toerisme-initiatieven.
6. Meerstemmigheid en maatschappelijke thema’s
Denk aan het bespreken van gevoelige en urgente onderwerpen en het bevorderen van meerstemmigheid.
7. Specifieke thema’s en domeinen
Denk aan maritieme cultuur, klimaatverandering, de zoutindustrie, inheemse culturen en Afro-Caribische storytelling.

Open Call: Knowledge Exchange between Heritage Professionals in the European Netherlands and the Caribbean Netherlands
Heritage and museum professionals from the European Netherlands and the Caribbean Netherlands are invited to apply for a pilot programme focused on knowledge exchange. The programme is organised by the Museum Association in collaboration with heritage institutions from the Caribbean part of the Kingdom. Its aim is to strengthen professional networks, deepen mutual understanding and encourage the exchange of practical knowledge and experience through temporary placements within each other’s organisations.
The programme will run until December 2027. The Mondriaan Fund initiated and finances this pilot as part of its policy to strengthen the cultural infrastructure across the regions of the Kingdom. The Museum Association is responsible for implementing the programme and aims to ensure its long-term continuation beyond the pilot phase.
From October 2026 to March 2027, opportunities will be available for knowledge exchange between museum organisations and heritage professionals in the European Netherlands and the Caribbean Netherlands. The exchange takes place at both institutional and individual levels and aims to foster sustainable partnerships, mutual learning and stronger professional networks.
The open call is based on the principles of equality, reciprocity and shared ownership. Projects should contribute to sustainable collaboration in which both parties actively exchange knowledge, expertise and experience while sharing responsibility for the development, implementation and outcomes of the project.
Individual heritage and museum professionals are also invited to apply. The following eligibility requirements and selection criteria apply.
Eligibility requirements
- Individual heritage and museum professionals from both the European Netherlands and the Caribbean Netherlands are eligible to apply.
- The knowledge exchange must take place with a heritage professional, museum professional or heritage organisation in the other part of the Kingdom.
- Project period: October 2026 to March 2027.
- Job-shadowing period: up to 12 days.
- Maximum grant:
- €3,500 for a visit to the Caribbean Netherlands.
- €4,500 for a visit to the European Netherlands.
The grant may be used to cover, among other things:
- Travel and accommodation costs for a visit to the European Netherlands or the Caribbean Netherlands.
In addition:
- Selected participants will present the outcomes, experiences and lessons learned from their knowledge exchange during the Dutch Caribbean Heritage Platform Conference in March 2027 (in person or online).
- Project proposals may consist of a maximum of two pages or be submitted through a video interview.
- A maximum of 12 participants will be selected: six from the European Netherlands and six from the Caribbean Netherlands.
- The application deadline is Friday, 18 September 2026.
- Applicants selected for the individual exchange are not eligible to participate in the institutional exchange.
Selection criteria
1. Relevance
- Demonstrated involvement in the heritage or museum sector.
- A clear motivation and a demonstrated connection to one of the programme themes.
- The exchange contributes to strengthening heritage practice, knowledge development or collaboration between the European Netherlands and the Caribbean Netherlands.
2. Collaboration
- The project is based on an equal partnership in which both parties contribute knowledge, expertise and experience, exchange insights and learn from one another.
- The proposal demonstrates that both parties are actively involved in the development, implementation and evaluation of the project and share responsibility for its outcomes.
3. Knowledge sharing and impact
- The proposal includes a knowledge-sharing plan explaining how knowledge, experiences and results will be shared with colleagues, organisations and professional networks across the wider heritage sector.
- The project contributes to sustainable relationships and long-term collaboration between participating organisations and professionals.
- Proposals that demonstrate a broader impact on the heritage and museum sector by benefiting multiple professionals or organisations will be viewed favourably during the assessment process.
4. Quality and feasibility
- The proposal is well developed, realistic and feasible within the proposed timeframe.
- The proposal demonstrates an appropriate level of relevant expertise and professional experience.
- The proposal includes a monitoring and evaluation plan describing how results, learning experiences and impact will be documented and assessed.
Themes for knowledge exchange
1. Collection care and management
Examples include conservation, inventory and documentation, collection management, deaccessioning, and sustainable storage through knowledge sharing and training.
2. Digitisation and knowledge sharing
Examples include the digitisation of collections and archives, inclusive access to collections, and innovative museum presentations.
3. Community building and participation
Examples include museums and heritage institutions as community hubs, participatory approaches and co-creation.
4. Education and capacity building
Examples include educational programmes, internships and training, recognition of local expertise, and tailored knowledge transfer.
5. Cultural entrepreneurship and tourism
Examples include cultural entrepreneurship and sustainable tourism initiatives.
6. Multiple perspectives and social issues
Examples include addressing sensitive and urgent topics and promoting multiple perspectives and inclusive narratives.
7. Specific themes and domains
Examples include maritime heritage, climate change, salt industry heritage, Indigenous cultures and Afro-Caribbean storytelling.
